Hello, everyone! I am Julia Matsuo, and I have been with the cozy Saturday afternoon class (which consists of six members including myself) since last September. I have had a pleasant experience over the past eight months communicating with the class, and I am sorry that we have yet to meet many of us due to the on-going pandemic. All the same, I do hope to see you all in the near future!

A little more about myself: I have spent extended periods in Ghana, United States, and Japan at various times in my life so far. Currently, I am a graduate student studying immunology, a study of the immune system which works to protect the body from infections. When I am not in lab working on my research projects, I like to go to theaters and concert halls for plays and classical music.

Although the spread of Covid-19 has robbed us off the opportunity to meet and enjoy life as we once had, it is my prayer that we find joy and peace in the hardest of situations. The best is yet to come!

Hello! My name is Kaoru Leong and I have been teaching English classes at IFCA for almost a year.

I was originally born in Japan (Hamamatsu, Shizuoka) but moved to the United States when I was 5 years old. I grew up in Los Angeles, CA and earned my B.S degree from UC Berkeley and my Ph.D from The Johns Hopkins University in biomedical engineering. I also attended Saturday Japanese school from elementary through middle school and often visited Japan during summer vacations.

I moved to Tokyo in the summer of 2019 with my husband and two boys. I had never even dreamed of living in Japan again and it has been such an amazing experience. Nathaniel (5) and Alexander (2) love Japan and have blossomed in their respective international schools. Nathaniel can now fully speak in Japanese and is learning how to read and write as well! Alex is also becoming increasingly bilingual. I have learned so much about Japanese traditions and culture from the students at IFCA we have so many fun discussions every month! I now have a long list of places to visit and things to do before moving back to the United States! I am so grateful for this opportunity and we will cherish these memories forever.

イフカに出会って

私とイフカの出会いは何か趣味を見つけたいと思いインターネットで探し始めたところ、こちらのホームページに目が留まり、先生にご連絡を差し上げたのが始まりです。

私のここ最近の１０年は子育て一色。子供を授かってからは双子と言う事もあり自分の時間は皆無に近い状態でした。しかし子供の成長につれて自分の時間も。この時間を無駄にしたくないと思い始めていました。

イフカに伺い先生のお人柄に惹かれすぐに入会したいと思いました。先生は体験してゆっくり決めてくださいねと言ってくださいましたが私の心は決まっていました。

とは言え英語も得意ではなく英語どころか大人と会話すらない生活をしていた私に出来るのか、皆さんにご迷惑をお掛けするのではと不安になりましたがそれも今となっては杞憂でした。

火曜日のお仲間に入れていただきましてお優しい方々に助けていただきながら私のような英語初心者でもとても楽しくお勉強させて頂いています。生徒の皆さんのお人柄に感謝しています。
今では先生はじめ生徒の皆さんにお会いするのが毎週の楽しみです。
これからも末永くよろしくお願いします。
